The useful takeaway

Build something worth citing, make it accessible, and measure what happens. There is no guaranteed route into an AI answer.

Start with the customer decision

Imagine a US homeowner comparing a repair with a replacement, or a European software buyer choosing an implementation partner. Neither needs another definition of your service. They need costs, constraints, evidence, and a reason to trust your answer. Write down the five questions that repeatedly slow down a sale. Those questions are a better starting point than a list of trending AI keywords.

For each question, choose one page that should answer it. Record the audience, market, next action, and evidence you can contribute. A useful page might explain when a cheaper option is enough, how a quote is calculated, or which projects are outside your scope. A specific answer gives you a concrete asset to improve and promote.

Make the answer accessible before promoting it

Check the exact URL, rather than assuming the entire domain is healthy. Can a visitor reach it through normal navigation? Does the server return a successful page? Is the main answer visible without a login? Are your canonical URL and indexing instructions consistent? Use Search Console to inspect the page and compare the indexed version with what you intend to publish.

Google's documentation connects eligibility for AI features with its Search requirements. Its newer generative AI guide also points site owners to the relevant inclusion settings in Search Console. Check the current controls for your property before assuming eligibility. Use the AI search readiness checklist to record your checks. It is a workflow, not a Google score.

Add evidence that another page cannot copy easily

Replace an unsupported statement such as “we deliver the best results” with something a reader can examine. Useful evidence includes an explained process, a named specialist, original photographs, a small dataset with its limitations, or a project example with the client's permission. If you compare options, say which criteria you used and where the comparison does not apply.

For an illustrative contractor page, this could be a breakdown of three project scenarios: a straightforward repair, a partial replacement, and a full installation. Explain the assumptions instead of inventing a universal price. For a software business, show what the handover includes and which integrations need extra discovery. That kind of specificity helps buyers even if an AI system never cites the page.

Connect your own evidence with credible third parties

Your website explains your work. Relevant independent coverage can put that work in a wider context. Find publications, professional communities, and resource pages that already help your audience. Offer an observation, dataset, or explanation that fits their readers. A mention should exist because the editor found something useful.

This is where Digital PR and editorial outreach can support a broader search strategy. Do not treat a purchased mention or a listicle position as a guaranteed AI recommendation. If you want to develop a story, start with the Digital PR campaign framework. Be consistent about your brand name, specialist profiles, and the service you actually provide.

Use a small, repeatable measurement set

Create a set of business questions covering discovery, comparison, and purchase intent. Keep the market, language, date, and search experience with each observation. Record whether your brand was mentioned, whether a page was cited, and which competing sources appeared. A single answer on a single day cannot show a durable trend.

Use the current reports available in Search Console alongside your analytics and enquiry log. Google's June 2026 announcement introduced dedicated generative AI performance views. Availability and controls should be checked in the account you manage. Read the measurement guide before combining observations from different tools.

Choose a useful 30-day improvement

In the first week, select one commercially important topic and check its technical access. In the second, improve the page with evidence you already own. In the third, connect it to related resources and prepare a relevant outreach list. In the fourth, review enquiries, page engagement, and your saved search observations.

Keep a short change log so that later results have context. Avoid changing the title, content, internal links, and promotion plan every few days. Give the work time to be discovered and measured. The next step is a focused AI search and GEO review that identifies which pages deserve work first, rather than a promise that every page will appear in an AI answer.
